Margie Phyllis Howell, age 89, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, April 6, 2019. She was born on November 1, 1929 in Brawley, California to Oscar L. Slaughter and Frederica Slaughter (Bradbury). Margie, the eldest of four children and the only daughter, was instrumental in helping raise her siblings. The family lived along the Big Sandy River in Kingman, Arizona and later moved to Phoenix, Arizona in her teenage years. It was then when she met the love of her life, Dale Howell. She loved to tell the story about the first night they met, stayed up all night on the front porch of her home, and decided that night to get married. Two months later, on August 24, 1946, they wed. Together they had two sons, John (deceased) and Richard. Dale and Margie created many memories at Apache Lake and enjoyed traveling together in their motorhome exploring the country. Margie had a successful, 29-year career as a branch manager at Valley National Bank. She also devoted much of her time to bible study. Margie always had spunk for life, and those that knew her well will always remember her for her impeccable hair, manicured nails, safety pin earrings, and metallic shoes. She is survived by son, Richard (Sandy); three granddaughters, Tiffany (Luis), Stephanie and Jennifer (Mike); four great grandchildren, Jessica (Mike), Andrew, Jacob and Hudson. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at A.L. Moore-Grimshaw Mortuaries Bethany Chapel, 710 West Bethany Home Road, Phoenix. Reception will immediately follow. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Vietnam Veterans of America or Hospice of the Valley.
