Marc A Thien

Marc Andrew Thien was born November 23, 1973 at Sherman Hospital and resided in Crystal Lake, Illinois where he lived during his early years. He moved to Arizona as a young boy where he resided in Tempe and attended McClintock High School.

Marc spent many nights during his younger years sleeping in the projection room at the Scottsdale 6 Drive- In where his father worked. In his older years, much to Christie’s disappointment, Marc always had a difficult time staying awake during a movie.

At the tender age of 4, Marc received a guitar for Christmas and his friend Christopher got a drum set. Within minutes they switched presents and from then on began his passion for drums. In his teen years he was influenced by heavy metal bands & Rock N Roll. He carried on his passion of music by learning to play the guitar as well as the drums. He and his best friend Stan began playing together and soon after they displayed their talents with a well known band Thirteenth Floor. Although they were better known to their neighbors than the local music scene, Marc was always proud of his relationship with Stan and the music they created.

Growing up, Marc and Stan spent many hours in the local T-Shirt shops that lined the streets of Tempe. His favorite was Shirts & Things, where they spent countless hours looking for their favorite bands “black” T-Shirts. To know Marc (black t-shirts) was also to know that he continued to visit Shirts & Things throughout his life. One of Marc’s most memorable times came when he and Stan were granted an opportunity to meet Kiss band member Ace Frehley through The Make a Wish Foundation. A memory that was forever etched in Marc’s heart after Stan passed away at the age of 23 from Cystic Fibrosis.

Marc was most proud of his culinary skills which he learned from his grandmother, Edna Thien. He frequently spoke of his Grandmother for whom he acknowledged as his “inspiration” for a Blog he created called Daddy’s Dishes.

Marc’s passion for life extended beyond his love of music and preparing delectable dishes. He leaves two daughters Tesla (13) and Faith (10) whom he loved dearly. Together they enjoyed watching scary movies, eating sushi and munching down on ice cream with lots of strawberries and bananas.

Marc met Christie Michelle Baker on Thanksgiving Day in 2009. They quickly bonded, blended families and looked to the future.

Marc’s first jobs included a stint at Applebee’s, followed by Insight and finally Ascent which later became a division of Stryker Sustainability Solutions in Tempe, AZ. There he achieved the position of Quality Control Manager and built relationships with co-workers that he cherished. Marc was especially proud of the 9 years he spent with Ascent/Stryker and considered it one of his most valued accomplishments.

Marc is survived by his wife Christie Thien of Mesa, AZ., daughters Tesla Macbeth Thien of Chandler, AZ and Faith Grace-Michelle Thien of Goodyear, AZ. , step-daughters Nina and Alexis Baker and step-son Preston McGhie of Chandler, AZ. He is also survived by his two older sisters Jannet (Thien) Owens of Troy, Missouri and Sandy (Thien) Brunk of Marengo, Illinois.
