76, of Anthem, AZ passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at home surrounded by her husband and two children. Lucy (Sammee) was born April 12, 1939 in Bellefonte, PA to Edward and Clemma Watkins. She was the youngest of 10 children. Sammee grew up in north-central PA and graduated from Bald Eagle Nittany High School in Mill Hall. In 1963 she moved to Phoenix and on November 7, 1963 met her husband to-be, Robert, at a Wesley function at Aldersgate United Methodist Church. They were married at the church on April 16, 1964. Sammee’s preferred work career revolved around school systems. She was a pre-school director, worked in clerical positions at ASU, including administrative assistant to the Assistant Registrar, and at Shea Middle School in the Paradise Valley School District, from where she retired after 19 years of service. She loved her family deeply, and enjoyed the holidays and family get-togethers. She was an avid reader and researched the family genealogy, volunteered her time to the church, and was a member of several organizations. Sammee was a charter member of the Ocotillo Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution in Anthem and also attended functions of the Red Hats Society. Sammee is survived by her husband of 51 years, Robert; son, Matthew of Lakewood, CO, daughter, Erin (Kris) Ryan and son-in-law, Patrick Ryan, of Commerce City, CO, granddaughters, Rebecca Ryan of Denver, CO, Katherine Ryan of London, England and one sister, Sara Watkins of Anthem, AZ. A Celebration of Life service will be held for Sammee at Dove of the Desert United Methodist Church, 7201 W. Beardsley Rd., Glendale, AZ 85308 on January 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Valley or the University of Arizona Cancer Research Center.
