It is with a heavy heart to announce the passing of Leopoldo Celaya on September 28, 2021. He died peacefully at home in Phoenix, Arizona at 80 years old surrounded by family. Leopoldo had several nicknames throughout his life, Leo (work), Polo (family), Tirri (childhood friends) and Chaca (his nephew).
Polo was born in Oquitoa, Sonora, Mexico on January 4, 1941 to Leopoldo and Rosalia (Montano) Celaya. He is the youngest of 12 siblings raised in Mexicali, Baja California. He came to the United States in 1963 and became an American citizen in 1999. Polo met the love of his life, Natividad (Naty), in 1966 and married on September 20, 1969. He was a trucker as a young adult and a machinist for 51 years at Elevator Equipment Company. He retired in 2019 and moved Phoenix, Arizona .
Polo is survived by his wife, Naty, his son Victor (Diana), and his daughter Rita (Gabriel) , 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Polo is predeceased by his son, Francisco, his sister Olga Grijalva and many nephews and nieces.
He will be sadly missed by his entire family and friends.
