Lena Mae Evans was born on September 12, 1936 to Horace Walker and Lassie Johnson in Dallas, Texas. After battling with being ill for several months she was taken home by her family and she transitioned from this life on August 11, 2022. Lena Mae spent her childhood years in Safford, Arizona and at an early age moved to Phoenix, Arizona.
Lena Mae worked at Arnolds Pickle Factory in East Phoenix on the assembly line. She later got a job at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Central Phoenix working in housekeeping. She retired from St. Joseph’s Hospital and grew bored with sitting at home, so she took a job at Trevor G. Browne High School working in the cafeteria. It got her out of the house and kept her busy.
Lena Mae loved going to church and she enjoyed cooking. She loved when one of her daughters would pick her up and take her to the stores and she could look around and shop. Sometimes she would get on the bus and ride the bus just to get out. She was independent to the very end. She is the Strongest woman we will have ever had the pleasure of knowing and calling mama.
Following the illness, Lena Mae departed this life and entered completely healed into the eternal abode of Christ her Savior. She has taken her rest, but she will live on forever in our hearts. She would say to us today “Don’t cry for me, I have lived 85 years, I have had everything I wanted and everything I thought I wanted. God has been Good to me.”
Lena Mae was preceded in death by her husband Joe Earl Evans, her parents Horace Walker and Lassie Johnson, a daughter Mary Louise Walker, 3 Sons: Darnell Rogers, Danny Rogers, and Lawrence Rogers, 4 Brothers: Sonny Walker, Carl Walker, Robert James Walker, and Mason Walker, 2 Sisters: Ola Pearl Walker and Louise Walker.
Lena Mae leaves her imprint in our hearts and a lifetime of memories in her 5 children: Barbara Henderson (Leonard), Joann McDonald, Deborah Rogers, Jackie Haywood, and Contina Evans all of Arizona, 22 Grandchildren, 57 Great Grandchildren, 7 Great-Great Grandchildren, 1 Brother Travis Walker, 1 Sister Abel Jean Kingsby and a host of nieces, nephews, special friends and many others.
A visitation for Lena will be held Friday, August 19, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Funeraria Del Angel Greer-Wilson Chapel, 5921 West Thomas Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85033.
