Katherine (Kathy) Pattson Hart passed away Monday, January 15, 2024. She lived life with fervor and was both a physically and emotionally strong person. During her final years of life Kathy fought hard to overcome multiple health issues. She finally let go after spending a wonderful 91 years living life to its fullest!
Kathy was born October 11, 1932, in Globe Arizona to William John Pattison and Janie Eva Pattison. Living on the San Carlos Indian reservation, in Ajo, and Casa Grande before her parents settled in Globe, AZ. She graduated from Globe High School in 1950 and was off to nursing school in Phoenix. She graduated from the Good Samaritan School of Nursing in 1954. She met the love of her life, David (Dave) Hart, in 1959 and they married July 29, 1961. Through the 62 years of togetherness, family, and the usual ups and downs of life, the special bond they had and their love for each other was always prevalent right up until her last days of life.
The early years of Kathy’s career were spent in San Fransisco, working as a trauma nurse. For better part of her career, she worked at Doctors Hospital as a nurse manager of the orthopedics unit, which she established. Kathy was very proud of her achievements, including obtaining her bachelor’s degree in nursing at the age of 50, and would work in nursing for more than 40 years. The most meaningful accomplishment to Kathy were the long-term friendships she made at work.
Kathy was the quintessential social butterfly, making new friends wherever she went – at work, on the many family trips she went on, at her water aerobics classes, and even to the point of knowing all the grocery clerks by name! In addition to traveling, she enjoyed solving local crossword puzzles, reading, building puzzles, and “participating” in game shows from her chair in the family room. The breadth of her general knowledge was always an amazement to her family. Kathy was also an avid sports fan. The Arizona Diamondbacks were her favorite team. Her knowledge of each player was impressive – she was such a diehard fan. It always put a smile on her face knowing baseball season was upon us!
Kathy’s greatest love was her family, to whom she was known as the Matriarch, and fondly referred to as the Queen. In addition to her husband, Dave, Kathy leaves behind her two daughters Kelly Rowland (Jeff) and Erin Hart. She never failed to express her constant and endless love for her children and her admiration for all the big and little things they accomplished over the years. Kathy was also extremely fond of her son-in-law, Jeff Rowland, and her grandchildren Alexandra and Nicholas who brought her constant joy. She held Alex and Nic close to her heart and shared stories about them to anyone who would listen. Cary Naude (Nic), who was adopted by love, became part of the family over 40 years ago. Cary and her family also held a special place in Kathy’s extremely big heart. Kathy also leaves behind her sister Colleen Berry, who was her best friend and her rock, as well as Colleen’s husband Steve Berry and their daughters Leanne (Brian), Suzie (Pat), and Temre (Jacob). Kathy’s cousins – Sharon, Craig (Jan), Chrissy (Al), and Don (Nancy) – and their families were very special to her too. Despite the geographical distance between some family members, liming how often they were able to see each other, whenever they did get together it was as if no time had passed, and a good time was had by all!
Kathy’s husband and her daughters would like to extend a special thanks to all the doctors and nurses who cared for her in recent years. The genuine concern for Kathy, along with your expertise and skill, allowed her to reach an amazing 91 years of age. Thank you!
