Much beloved Juston Dae Doherty of Peoria Arizona, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday July 7, 2018, while on active military duty at the Arizona Army National Guard Base in Phoenix. He was 45. Born in Phoenix on November 8, 1972, Juston graduated from Trevor G. Brown High School and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management from Arizona State University in 1996. Living a fearless life dedicated to the service of others, Juston was both a firefighter and a war hero.
A respected 15-year veteran of the Phoenix Fire Department and a Technical Rescue Technician at Station 45, Juston received the Medal of Valor in 2014 for entering a burning apartment building on his day off without protection, to save children who were trapped in the fire. He received serious burn injuries during the incident. This selfless act is but a single example of his extraordinary heroism that resulted in countless lives saved during his career.
The epitome of a patriot, Juston was also a highly decorated Captain in the U.S. Army, serving in two combat deployments; the first in Iraq in 2003 and the second in Afghanistan in 2013. Juston had a long and distinguished military career, receiving multiple commendations and medals including the Bronze Star. He was an Army Ranger and Airborne School graduate.
Predeceased by father Edmond Doherty of Tucson Arizona, Juston is survived by his fiancée Kendra Horton, son Tighe Rockett Doherty, 13, mother Kathleen Williams, step-father Jeff Williams, sister Nicole Elinski and brother Zach Elinski. Juston was also a loving co-parent of his fiancée's two children, Ethan Lucas, 12, and Kierra Alford, 10. His step-son Colton Whitmire, 21, is a Seaman with the U.S. Navy. Juston leaves behind an extended family of many aunts, uncles and cousins, as well as countless friends. The unexpected loss of his loving and inspiring presence in all of our lives will be very heavy to bear.
Funeral arrangements will be held at 10:00am Tuesday, July 17 at Christ's Church of the Valley, 7007 W. Happy Valley Road, Peoria Arizona. Interment will follow at 2:00pm at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona located at 23029 Cave Creek Road in Phoenix. Arrangements entrusted to Shadow Mountain Mortuary.
