Julia Mae Touvell, “Julie”, passed away at home on Sunday, April 21st. She was 88 years old. Julie was surrounded by family and friends at the time of her passing, which serves as a true testament to her character and as evidence that she was a blessing in the lives of all those she came in contact with.
Julie was born on April 8, 1925 in Sugar Grove, Illinois. She and her late husband of 55 years, Wayne Touvell, relocated to Phoenix, Arizona in the spring of 1962. She was a loving wife and faithful mother of seven children.
As a registered nurse for more than 40 years, Julie served at several nursing homes in the valley. During her career, she also worked as the director of nursing for the Valley of the Sun School and The Beatitudes Campus for retirement living, both in Phoenix, Arizona.
At a different capacity, Julie opened the school of prayer at her church, The Valley Cathedral, where she attended for close to 30 years. She also served as the leader of the prayer ministry there. Her love, faithfulness, and dedication to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, were more than obvious. She lived a true life of devotion to Him; her daily life exemplified this. She was an example of Godliness everywhere she went. Julie loved, supported, and mentored many through her prayer life and relationship with God. Most recently, she led the prayer ministry and taught a Bible study at Peoria Good Shepherd where she lived. She left a lasting impression on each person she met. Her legacy will live on through her loved ones and those closest to her.
Julie is survived by two of her brothers, Edward O’Connell of Sugar Grove, Illinois and Gene O’Connell of Mount Vernon, Illinois. Six of her children: Carla Touvell, Donald Touvell Sr., Joseph Touvell, John Touvell, Mary Stahl, and Michael Touvell, all of Phoenix, Arizona also survive her. Charles Touvell, Julie’s oldest son, predeceased her in 2010. Her 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren survive her as well.
Services will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the Serenity Chapel at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery located at 2300 W Van Buren Street in Phoenix, Arizona.
