Josephine Marie Gronley (Jo), earned her wings June 16, 2016 and now is in the loving presence of our LORD. Jo was born in her father's bakery April 17, 1928. She grew up in the Detroit area and graduated from the University of Detroit. She married her grade school sweetheart Zenon (deceased) in 1952. Jo and Zenon moved to the Chicago area, (Wilmette and Melrose Park) where Zenon worked for IBM. After several years in the Chicago area they moved with the company and their six children to Scottsdale, Arizona. Jo was a kindergarten teacher extraordinaire in Scottsdale for over 30 years. She began her career at Our Lady of Perpetual Help (Scottsdale) Catholic School as a substitute teacher. She taught kindergarten at Anasazi and Cheyenne Traditional School. In 2003 she was awarded Educator of the Year. She was passionate about education and was a strong proponent of Traditional based education. After her retirement she continued as a substitute teacher in many other Scottsdale schools. She was predeceased by her son Jimmy and husband Zenon. Jo was loved by many and will be sorely missed. Funeral services will be held at St. Joseph's parish 11001 N 40th St, Phoenix, AZ 85028 Monday June 27th at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her name to Catholic Charities USA P.O. Box 17066 Baltimore, MD 21297-1066 or any other charity.
