Joseph J. Orso, better known as Joe or Papa, stepped into glory after a short illness on August 23, 2023 surrounded by his family. He was born in Chicago, Illinois on November 15, 1941 to Joseph and Evelyn (Bloch) Orso. He married the love of his life, Eileen Dahrup in 1961 and they had six children.
Joe and Eileen moved from Chicago to Phoenix, Arizona in 1967, where they raised their family. Joe worked as a butcher, a tree trimmer and as a Senior Service Gas Technician with Arizona Public Service (APS). He retired from Southwest Gas (SWG) in the summer of 1999. Joe and Eileen loved to travel with the family in their motorhome with frequent trips to Rocky Point, Mexico. He enjoyed cooking and sharing those recipes from his Italian heritage. His hobby was collecting stamps and in his spare time, he liked to cheer for his beloved Chicago Cubbies and San Diego Chargers. Following the passing of Eileen in 1997, and his retirement from SWG, he eventually moved to Wildomar, California with his companion Lynn Snyder.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife Eileen and son Dominic. He is survived by his brother Allen of Tucson, Arizona, daughters Jeanine Lee (Norman), Allison (Jay) Spendley , Pamala (Glenn) McFarlin , sons Joseph (Heidi), John (Keri), seventeen grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
Joe was a fantastic father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend. He is loved deeply by his family and will be sincerely missed. A Celebration of Life service will be held on Saturday September 9th, 2023 beginning with a public viewing at noon with his funeral to follow at noon. Services will be held at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, 719 N. 27th, Ave., Phoenix, Arizona.
