He graduated from J.M. Hanks High School in 1990. It was there where he developed a large friend group. He would spend his free time collecting comics and going to Juarez. As a teen he learned how to lay carpet by working with his Uncle. He then took that skill and moved to Phoenix in 1995, with his best friend Alfredo, working in the floor and wall department at Home Depot.
While living in Phoenix his infectious love and care of people amassed him an even larger friend group. He would spend his evenings going out to Scottsdale. He would visit nightclubs where he developed his love for EDM. It was in this culture that Joe created a bond among the friends within that community. Thanks to another friend, it was here where he met the love of his life Leslie. They instantly became good friends.
He spent a few years in Lake Havasu thanks to his career at Home Depot. He later retired and moved back to El Paso where he helped run his father’s business in computer and IT. During his time there, he began running a homeless ministry at his church that he attended. He provided people with a shower, a clean set of clothes and toiletries. A lot of the items he provided with his own money because of limited church funds.
During this time he began dating Leslie in Sierra Vista, AZ, while she was doing her residency. Joe moved back to Phoenix with Leslie when she completed her residency in 2010. Shortly after moving, and after much convincing from a friend, he began working for a small startup called Unicorn Media as their IT Support Engineer. After his time there he then retired again and began investing in local real estate.
Leslie and Joe married in an impromptu wedding in Las Vegas in 2013. Their son London Joseph Dominguez was born on November 16, 2016. He became Joe’s everything. Everyone looked for Joe and London around town to say #iseelondon.
Joe came to love his Coronado neighborhood. He unofficially dubbed himself as the Mayor of Coronado. Joe and Leslie formed a “bicycle gang” named the Coronado Rumblers. They host a very popular annual “Elf Pack” during Christmas time, which was Joe’s absolute favorite holiday. They regularly hosted Taco Tuesdays at their house for their neighbors. They also joined the neighborhood golf cart gang the Coronado Hoodlums. He loved attending local neighborhood events with his son London.
Joe loved downtown so much that he convinced a friend of his to build a restaurant, where he and Leslie became investors. You could often find him at Nook Kitchen Downtown in the evenings where he spent time posting promotions on the restaurants behalf.
Joe loved collecting and selling comics. He attended many Comicons and was proud to meet a lot of artists that he had been collecting over his lifetime. He loved playing team trivia with his friends, and their team name was “It’s So Fluffy.” Leslie began taking him to Guatemala for a medical mission, which became an annual tradition. He was a favorite among the hermanas in Guatemala. Leslie also convinced him to join Ingress, a location based online game played on a mobile device, which is how he met an even larger group of people and played all around the world. Everyone who plays Ingress knows @littlecoolaz. Everyone knows Joe loved his watches, shoes, suits, and sunglasses.
Joe was a Dallas Cowboys fanatic. He even converted Leslie into a Cowboys fan. He loved collecting Cowboys paraphernalia. He was an avid sports fan, and loved going to all kinds of games downtown with his friends. He was the commissioner of a Fantasy Football league.
He was a generous loving individual who was highly respected among all of those who knew him closely. He was always great at maintaining a direct connection, via call or text, with those he knew, which is a rarity in this day.
He was looking forward to meeting his baby girl, Lucy Caroline, who proceeded him in death by 3 days. He is survived by his wife Leslie, son London, mother Rebecca, father Jose Sr, brother Elias and sister in-law Jozaline and their four children Adalyn, Teagan, Maddox, and Jaxson.
