90 of Phoenix, Arizona went home to God January 13, 2013 at Hospice of the Valley in Sun City, Az. He is now going to be our angel in heaven looking over us. Gumpy is a nickname given to him by one of his grandchildren. He was born in Queens, New York on August 23, 1922 to Martin and Mary Peters. He is survived by his wife of 62 years Doris, children Jeanne Recchion, Tommy Peters, and Dorothy Rinker, grandchildren Tara Youngker, Travis Recchion, Jordan Recchion and Tommy Peters Jr., Great grandchildren Trey Youngker and Aliyah Youngker, his sister Theresa Molfetta and numerous nieces and nephews. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. There are not enough words to explain the extraordinary man that he was. He will remain in our hearts forever. He retired to Arizona in 1989. He was a War World II veteran who was on the Susan B Anthony ship that sunk during the invasion of Normandy. He worked on many skyscrapers in New York City as a steamfitter. He was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus for over sixty years. He was an avid card player with poker being one of his favorites and a fan of the movie industry. He enjoyed visiting Turf Paradise and followed the sport of horse racing. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6-8 Pm at Shadow Mountain Mortuary 2350 E Greenway Rd. Phoenix, Az. Funeral will be Thursday at 9:00 at Shadow Mountain Mortuary.
