John Chuck Gee

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John Gee, a beloved son, brother, husband, father, and uncle, who left an indelible mark on the community. John departed this world on November 21, 2023, leaving a legacy of determination, resilience, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Born on November 9, 1958, in Toisan, Guangdong, China, John was the youngest son of Wing Charm Gee and Ling Sheung. He grew up surrounded by the love of his four older siblings: Chuck On, Kenneth, Paul, and sister Judy. In 1979, at the age of 21, John ventured to the United States, seeking new opportunities and a fresh start. Settling in Phoenix, Arizona, he attended Phoenix Union High School, where he laid the foundation for a future marked by ambition and hard work.

After high school, John embarked on a culinary journey that would define his professional life. He began honing his skills in the restaurant industry at Peking restaurant in Toledo, Ohio. After three years of dedicated work, he returned to Phoenix, continuing to expand his knowledge and expertise by working in various restaurants including Cherry Blossom and Dragon Palace. His unwavering commitment and tireless efforts culminated in the realization of his dream—a restaurant of his own. He would go on to start not one but three of his own restaurants: North China, Prince 1 and lastly Jimmy Jacks. When John opened Jimmy Jacks it quickly became a cornerstone of the local business landscape. He would go on to run Jimmy Jacks for over 20 years until his retirement earlier this year.

Amidst the hustle and bustle of the restaurant world, John's path intersected with that of Feng Ying Chen in Phoenix. Their story unfolded over more than two decades, resulting in a family that included their two children, Michael and Susan. John's role as a husband and father was marked by boundless love, support, and a commitment to creating lasting memories.

John is survived by his wife, Ying, and children, Michael and Susan, his brothers, Chuck On and Paul along with their wives Yip Pen and Mancy, and his sister Judy. Additionally, he is fondly remembered by his nieces Elaine and Linda and nephews Ronald, Dennis, and Andy for sprinting across numerous blocks to impart the skill of riding a bike, countless McDonald’s sundaes, and bringing home the family dog, Lucky. Their shared memories and the love they had for John will forever bind them together.

A celebration of John's remarkable life will be held on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at Greenwood Memory Lawn from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Friends, family, and all those whose lives were touched by John are invited to join in commemorating a life well-lived.
