The Reverend Mr. John Arthur Fredrick, H.R., died peacefully August 29, 2014 under the care of Hospice of the Valley. He was born May 7, 1925 in Kansas City, Mo. After high school, he went to Westminster College, Fulton, Mo., then to Louisville Seminary. After completing seminary, he returned to his home church in Kansas City where he was ordained on July 17, 1950 and served that church as associate pastor until he went to Calvary Church in Independence, Mo. November of 1961 he moved to Phoenix and served as associate and then Senior pastor for Memorial Presbyterian Church. In 1990, he retired. He became interim Pastor at Desert Hills Presbyterian and was the Parish Associate for 10 years. He sang in the choir, rang handbells and taught Adult bible classes. John served in many Presbytery and Synod committees during his ministry. In 1962 he married Juana Welpton and they enjoyed their 51st anniversary this past December. John is survived by his wife, Juana, son David and wife Angie, son Stephen, grandsons Alex and David, his brother Jim of Flagstaff, nephew Michael and family and niece, Kitty and family. Six years ago he joined Juana as a volunteer in an elementary school where he was honored by the school district. Music was a vital part of his life. Camping with family in the mountains around Arizona and in California were a big part of summers for most of John’s retirement. John’s ability to be a “pastor” to those around him will be missed. The family wishes to thank the skilled doctors and nurses of Mayo Clinic Hospital and the staff of Hospice of the Valley for the care given to John during his illness. A Celebration of Life will be held at Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 8050 E. Mountain View Road, Scottsdale, AZ at 2 P.M. with a reception to follow in Meredith Hall. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a contribution in John’s name to any of the following: Hospice of the Valley, 1520 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014; Foundation for Public Education serving Paradise Valley USD, 15032 North 32nd St, Phoenix, AZ 85032; or Emmanuel Presbyterian Church, 3839 E.
