December 7, 1956 in San Diego, California to Robert and Shirley Clark.
John was many things in his life. He was a beloved husband to Jan and proud father to Nycole. He
was a kind and caring stepfather to Bethany and Jimmy. He was the devoted “Pappy” to 7
grandchildren. He was a brother to Mark, uncle to Rachel, Tim and Leah, a son and a friend. Nothing
mattered to him more than family and friends.
John was generous to a fault and genuinely cared for others. Those that were lucky enough to know
him loved him. He was a difficult man not to love, and could be described as kind, charming, funny
and ambitious... but was also stubborn, argumentative, impatient and a terrible procrastinator! In short,
John was a puzzle, but he was one worth trying to put together.
Anyone who knew John also knew that he was the consummate “car guy.” He loved all things
automotive, especially classic muscle cars. His dream was to rebuild one, but he was never able to
reach that elusive goal. Responsibilities to his family and then illness prevented that dream and so
many others from coming true for him. That didn't stop him from loving cars. He was able to attend
one more car show thanks to his best friend Chris.
John was no angel, but he was as close to a truly good human being as anyone could ever hope to be.
Even though his road was never easy, he was never bitter about having to travel it. He sometimes
became rebellious and even grumpy, but he was never a bitter man. He was thankful for every day he
had. A lesser person may not have endured all of the things he had to go through with such grace.
In the aftermath of his loss, his family and friends are left with a huge hole in their lives and in their
hearts where John used to be, but we take enormous comfort in knowing that he is finally free from the
things that held him back in this life. No doubt he's tinkering on a car and talking the ears off the saints
and angels. Most of all, he is existing in a well-deserved and hard-earned peace, waiting for Jan to join
him. They have a road trip to take...
Celebration of life to be announced at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be
made in John's memory to Hospice of the Valley.
