John Robert Brotherton, age 43, of Scottsdale, Ariz., a loving husband and amazing father, passed away suddenly on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2022. John was born Dec. 24, 1978, in Hobbs, N.M. He graduated from Miramonte High School in Orinda, Calif., in 1997, where he enjoyed playing volleyball for the Matadors. John graduated from Chapman University’s Dodge College of Film & Media Arts in 2001 with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in film production; he was a member of Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity, Adelpho Chapter. John received his MBA in finance in 2007 from St. Mary’s College of California.
In 2010, John met the love of his life, Melissa, standing in line to get a beer at an Oakland A’s/SF Giants pre-season game. John and Melissa married on Oct. 20, 2013, at Sanctuary Camelback Mountain Resort in Paradise Valley, Ariz. In 2018, they welcomed their first baby girl, Vivian. She meant the world to John and he adored being a father. In 2020, John, Melissa, and Vivian packed up and moved from California to Scottsdale, Ariz. They were so happy in Scottsdale, even considering the world was going through a pandemic. In 2021, John and Melissa welcomed their second girl, Brooklyn. As a family of four, they were complete and full of life.
John worked at Adobe (formerly Marketo pre-acquisition) for seven years as a Sr. Product Delivery Manager. He was everyone’s favorite coworker and always brought positive energy to any situation with the ability to fix any problem. John has left a lasting impression on everyone he worked with, turning many coworkers into lifelong friends.
John had a deep passion for golf – not only playing it, but building and re-building golf clubs, and watching championships on TV. He even set up a net in the backyard to practice and taught his daughter Vivian how to swing a club. John had recently picked up a new hobby of 3D printing and loved to make household gadgets and toys for the kids. He was passionate about movies and film, trivia, history, science, Star Wars, cars, and being with his family. John’s sense of humor could take down any room, and his laugh was infectious.
John was the beloved husband of Melissa [née Tracy] and loving father of his daughters, Vivian and Brooklyn. He was the youngest child of Robert H. and Betty Brotherton, and brother to Elizabeth (Halpin). In addition to his immediate family, John leaves behind his niece and goddaughter, Isabel Halpin, his parents-in-law, Michael and Connie Tracy, his brother-in-law, Charles Halpin, his loving aunts, uncles, and cousins, as well as countless friends. John was pre-deceased by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. R.H. Brotherton, Sr., and Dr. and Mrs. G.W. Tracy.
Family and friends are invited to attend his Visitation on Tuesday, Feb. 8, from 10-11 a.m., at Shadow Mountain Mortuary (2350 E.
