Joan Daniels, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on September 20, 2015 at the age of 87. She was the first of three children born on August 17, 1928, to John and Anna Sweeney in Staten Island, New York. Joan was preceded in death by her parents, husband Richard J. Daniels, son Douglas Daniels (Sturgis, SD), and sister Marilyn (Larry Ferrigno-Stafford, VA). Joan and Richard moved from New York to Tucson, AZ, with their two daughters, Diana and Kathy, in 1954, where their son Douglas was born. The family moved to Denver and Arvada, Colorado in 1956, and back to Arizona, this time to Phoenix in 1962. There were three more moves for Joan and Richard starting in 1968 - one back to Colorado, back to the New York area and finally back to Phoenix which had been their home for over the past 35 years. Joan was an excellent cook and enjoyed roller skating, ice skating and, up until very recently, ballroom dancing at several local senior centers. Joan is survived by her brother Jack Sweeney (Joan) of Maryland, daughters Diana Sandy and Kathy Jones (Keith), grandchildren Gregory Sandy, Jennifer Davis (Robert Musick), Jeremy Mobley (Christina), great grandson Colton Mobley - all of the Phoenix/Cave Creek area; and grandchildren Jessica Daniels, Douglas Daniels Jr., great grandchildren Demetrious and Nevaeh Daniels of Sturgis, SD. The family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley Sherman House. Arrangements by Phoenix Memorial Mortuary. There will be a brief service at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., on Friday, October 30, 2015, at 2:30 p.m. Messages/remembrances can be left at www.phoenixmemorialmortuary.com.
I’d like the memory of me
to be a happy one.
I’d like to leave an afterglow
of smiles when day is done.
I’d like to leave an echo
whispering softly down the ways,
of happy times, and laughing times
and bright and sunny days.
I’d like the tears of those who grieve
to dry before the sun
of happy memories I leave behind
when day is done.
