Hey Jeff,
I still cannot believe you are gone, buddy, as you used to call me. 
We knew each other fairly well as we worked and spoke on a regular basis. But during my last trip to Tempe, I got the chance to know you further as we spent a couple of hours chatting together after the training.
You were always ready to help others. So, when I told you that I wanted to buy something for my two girls, you jumped right in and took me shopping. You showed me pictures of your wife Lindsay and daughter Samantha on your phone and I showed you some of my family. You even called your wife to ask her what would be the best place to go. I will never forget that.
I also remember our conversation in the car about being a new Dad and a guide for our daughters as well as your excitement about your new house. I miss you, man.
My prayers are with you and your family and especially your baby girl Samantha.

We are so sorry to hear about Jeff's death.  We are praying for God's peace and comfort for all of you in this sad time, and for strength to face the days ahead.

Jeff was a great person and a friend I worked with at Barfield. We chatted over the phone and he expressed to me that the best thing that ever happened to him was his wife and baby. He always looked at the glass as half full and strove to fill that glass to the top because he was brimming with love for his wife and child. It is still hard for me to accept Jeff's sudden passing. Rest in peace my friend.

Roof aka Rooster was a riot, can't think of a time when I wasn't laughing when he was around. He wil be missed.

I don't know where to begin or what to say to make your pain any less. I am just in shock really. I remember holding him in the nursery at Royal Palms (Kristen too) and would always get updates on everyone once we'd left. I can't begin to pretend I understand God's plan or the why's, I just pray that he surrounds you with his humungous arms so you feel even the slightest bit of comfort. Although I've not seen you in a while I remember you all so very fondly.

Jim, Carmen, Kristen, and the others in the family whom we do not know personally . . . . We weep for you and with you.

One moment you don't know of someone, then you happen to read of his life and realise that everyone is the poorer for his passing, just as everyone who knew this young man was blessed to have him in their lives.Seldom have I seen someone spoken of so beautifully, from the hearts of those who knew and loved him; his kindness, good humour and generous spirit are not only spoken of here, each element shines from his photos. Those taken with his wife and his dear little daughter are especially poignant and I can only hope that all those who love and miss his presence can gain some comfort at this very difficult time from the knowledge that his life, though very short, was well lived, with honor, grace and humility. Jim and Carman, We are so sad to hear of your loss.  It is difficult to understand the loss of a child.  I remember him at Washington when you first talked about him his first year in high school.  We know you will never get over the loss of Jeff; you will get through it with the grace of God. Our prayers go to you and your family.

I had some really great times with Jeff. Although we didn't hang out outside of work I still considered him a friend. He was someone you could look up to someone that would offer help regardless if it was work related. Just a good morning from Jeff somehow turned into a 15 min conversation. I will never forget the big smile on his face every time the word Samantha or Sammie came out of his mouth. I could tell by his actions and words that he loved his family and friends. I would be working hard setting up units to run cleaning them doing computer work and when I decided to take a small break to look at my phone or sit down on the internet he would pop his head in the shop it was almost like he knew when we were slacking off. Jeff if somehow you can read this or hear my thoughts I wish we had more time you were a great leader, mentor and friend rest in peace we will always miss you!!!!

Dear Roof Family,
Though I did not know Jeff personally, I have known his wife for many years, as we both teach for the Madison School District. From a far, I got to see Lindsay's baby bump grow and hear about the birth of her daughter. She radiated happiness, which speaks volumes about the person she shared her life with. My deepest sympathy is sent to Lindsay and her and Jeff's family.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another. 

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to  Jeffrey James Roof  our “Brother-in-Arms”.   To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jeffrey.   And to Jeffrey it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the devoted and selfless service he rendered to his country during Operations Iraqi and Enduring Freedom while deployed with the U.S. Marine Corps.  Jeffrey, you served with honor and distinction; we bid you a sad farewell.  You will be dearly missed from among our ranks.  Be at Ease.  Rest in Peace.

Jeff was one of my swimmers when I first started at WHS. I remember Jeff as the kid who could always make you laugh just when you needed it. He and students like him made teaching and coaching fun, which is why I am still teaching and coaching today.

I'm sad to hear of his passing, he was a great guy to be around in the Marines because of his sense of humor and approach to each day.  Nothing but good memories of Jeff while working with him at VMGR-352

It is with heavy hearts that we feel the sudden passing of Jeff.  We watched Lindsay grow up in our practice and felt so fortunate when she brought Jeff into our office family.  When he was in last month, he was beaming about his new role as father.  Jeff will be deeply missed.

Jeff was a great person that had the ability to brighten anyone's day.  It was truly a pleasure to have worked with him and he will be greatly missed.

I remember walking around WHS and always seeing Jeff with a smile on his face and always messing around! My prayer go out to the whole family. I can't even imagine what you all are going threw at this difficult time. My all of you find peace and may god always bless all of you.

A great guy gone too soon! Jeff was a pleasant guy to work with always willing to go the extra mile for anyone in need.

Jeff, I didn't really get the chance to know you. What I do know is that I was there the night you and lindsay met! The smile on her face when she met you told me enough! My heart goes out to all of you for your loss, as it is extremely difficult to lose our loved ones. Even though it is never the right time, we have to be strong! Strength is the one thing that gets us through the hardest times! My prayers are with you and your family!

Jeff I will miss you greatly. Working with you was always a pleasure. I will miss your sense of humor. I will miss the pictures of Sammie that you used to send me and the stories you told me about her. It was clear that you adored Lindsay and Sammie. Jeff helped me to meet and get to know my husband Jon when we were all just 15 years old.  When I was about to get married to Jon, Jeff told me that he did not think he would ever find someone to love like that.  When I saw pictures of his beautiful wife and daughter, I was thrilled to see that he had in fact found the love and happiness that he was looking for.  He has brought so much joy and laughter to all who had the privilege of knowing him.  His energy could light up a room and he could always make me smile. When we heard of his passing we were in shock and disbelief.  We will never forget the charismatic, silly, loving Jeff that we all knew. Jeff's passing has inspired me to focus on what really matters in life and appreciate the gift of every moment. Jeff, we miss you, love you, and will never forget you.

Jeff and I were once little boys playing baseball together, and then became reunited friends in high school for 4 fun filled years that I will never forget. The last time I saw Jeff he told me that he had found the woman of his dreams, and later I saw that his life mirrored my own when he became a father to a beautiful baby girl. I wanted to tell him how happy I was for him and what a great Dad I knew he would be.  Regret over the fact that I never took the time to do this is an understatement. I regret that I will never be able to see or speak to him again, and relate over stories about our children. If I could talk to him right now, this is what I would say, "Thank you for ever being my friend. You were a great connector in my life helping me to get to know my wife Marlo, and my best friend Mike." I would tell him through the immortal words of the Editors "that every little piece of your life will mean something to someone." Your life meant something to Me. You were selfless and giving of yourself. I wish I was more like you. I wish you were in my life now. I wish we never had to grow up, and we were still driving jeeps together. I wish... Samantha and Lindsay, nothing really ends as Jeff lives on in you and in all that knew him.  The life of your husband and your father has inspired my family, and will continue to influence us for the rest of our lives.

I remember Jeff from WHS, he was always there for a good laugh just before a swim meet, a stugo skit that left ya rolling on the floor for hours and one of the better note takers in class cause you could read his handwriting. I had the opportunity to work in Barfield Phoenix while Jeff was in charge there. I immediately noticed that he was resourceful and serious with his job but at the same time with a lot of charisma to treat other people. I will always remember him with admiration. I wish to express my condolences to his family.

Jeff- you never hesitated to stop what you where doing and come help us with our projects, big or small. Always giving, always willing to do more than one man's share. Thousands of candles or words will never do justice to your name or the man you were to us...
