Janice was born on February 4, 1945, to Chettie and Hollis (Roy) Bazzell in Kentucky.
When Janice was a young girl, she loved taking care of babies in grandmothers home. She loved watching TV and any country performers on the Grand Ole opry. She loved visiting family and going shopping.
On Easter weekend of March 2002, Janice, and her younger sister, Jennifer, came to live in the home of Roger and Sharon Hornbeck, where they have lived ever since. Janice was fully integrated into the Hornbeck family and quickly became part of their larger circle of friends and church community. Janice was eager to participate in any event that involved people, food, and music! Janice joyfully attended the Hornbeck children's weddings and was near when many of their ten grandchildren were born. Up until her death, Janice called the grandchildren her “babies.” She was especially fond of Elvis and Johnny Cash music, as well as hymns and choruses at church. Janice was a big part of the Hornbeck family, bringing joy, laughter, and innocent delight to most every day. She had spunk and a wry sense of humor that left you with a smile. Her comedic timing was impeccable.
Janice loved to travel and especially so when it meant she could be with extended family in Seattle, WA, Austin, TX, or Santa Maria, CA.
Janice is survived by her younger sister, Jennifer, of Glendale AZ, and her niece, Vicki Woodruff of Flagstaff, AZ. She is also survived by, and deeply missed by, her honorary family: Roger and Sharon Hornbeck, Shannon Suttle, Josh & Melanie Hornbeck, Matt & Roxy Hornbeck, Bethany & Clint Isaak, along with her babies, Jayda, Hannah, Zyere, Gianna, Mason, Abram, Josiah, Lennon, Madeline, and Cadence. She is preceded in death by her parents Hollis and Chettie, sisters Julia, Joyce and brother Dennis.
“Your body is away from me but there is a window open from my heart to yours. From the window, like the moon, I keep sending news secretly.” Rumi
A graveside service for Janice will be held Wednesday, December 28, 2022 from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at West Resthaven Funeral Home, 6450 West Northern Ave, Glendale, AZ 85301.
