Janet Marie Scott (née Bowman), affectionately known as "Warrior!" by those who knew her best, passed away on August 19, 2024, in Phoenix, at the age of 70, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born on Sunday, March 29, 1954, in Hickory, North Carolina, Janet's family moved to Phoenix in 1969, where she soon made a lasting impact as a dedicated high school special education teacher.
Janet graduated from Camelback High School in 1972 and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education from Arizona State University in 1976. Her passion for teaching and her deep commitment to children's welfare were evident throughout her career. She served as a special education teacher at Carl Hayden High School in Phoenix, retiring in 2004. She taught her first year at Nadaburg School District in Whittman.
Janet is survived by her loving family: son Andy Scott, daughter Lori Herrera (Oscar), and grandchildren Will, Alyssa, Jenna, and Jordan. She also leaves behind her siblings Becky Listiak, Terry Bowman, and Linda Bowman. She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnny and Colene Bowman.
A service to honor Janet's life will take place at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Rd., Phoenix, on Sunday, Sept. 1, at 10:30 a.m., followed by a poolside lunch at her home for family and friends. A graveside service is on Tuesday, Sept. 3, 9 a.m. at St. Francis Catholic Cemetery, 2033 N. 48th St., Phoenix.

Janet's legacy as a compassionate educator and a loving mom, grandma, sister and friend, will be cherished and remembered by all who knew her.
