Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, sadly passed away June 21st, 2010 at the age of 93. He was born in Havelock, Nebraska on Oct. 29, 1916 to Amos A. Nelson and Anna May Wadley. He is survived by his loving wife, Jaunita Jean; daughter Bernice Whisenand (Rex); son Jerral Roloff (Coral); grandsons, Alex Kelley, Mark Whisenand and Rick Whisenand; granddaughters, Jeanette Roloff, Karen Ikeda, Carol Maxwell, Keryn York; nine great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his previous wife of 56 years. Violet E. Nelson; sister Florence Lytle, and brother Tommy Wines. Jim entered the Army in 1936 assigned to Hawaii until 1939. He reentered the service in 1941 and served as a P-51 (Mustang) pilot during WWII, assigned to the 355th Fighter Group stationed in England, participating in 46 escort and strafing sorties for a total of 216 combat hours. He retired from the Air Force in 1960. During his retirement years he became a computer analyst, and retired from the US Postal Service in 1981. Funeral Services will be held at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E Greenway Rd., Phoenix at 9:00 A.M., Monday, June 28, 2010 with the interment following at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice if Arizona, 2222 W. Northern Ave., Phoenix, AZ 85021.
