Jacob was born on February 6, 1943 in Baltimore, Maryland to Milton and Betty Winner. It was in Baltimore that he discovered the calling for his life long passion of being an educator. Though he took some time away from the classroom to run a family business, teaching was always where he wanted to be. He taught in elementary schools all the way to college classrooms. He was not just invested in his students classroom success, but would encourage them to be successful outside of the classroom as well. In, fact we could never go out to eat as a family without him asking the staff if they were advancing their education somehow.
He and the family moved to Phoenix, Arizona in 1983.
Jacob had many interests from books and music, to his enormous collection of model cars. I guess growing up in a garage will do that to a person. He especially enjoyed going to the Barrett Jackson Auto Auction every year with his friends.
However no one could deny his absolute love for dogs. If there was dog nearby he would head straight for it. He would often say that a home wasn’t a home without a dog in it.
He was preceaded in death by his parents Milton and Betty and by his oldest son Marshall.
He is survived by his brother Charles(Judy) of Baltimore. His youngest son Joel (Julie) of Phoenix. His three grandchildren Zakk(Tabitha) of Tucson, Blake and Joshua of Phoenix.
As per his wishes there will be no memorial service or visitation held. A celebration of life will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers he has requested that donations be made to your local humane society.
