Howard Albert Carr, 93, of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away peacefully on May 20, 2014 of causes incident to age. The twin brother of Harold Clifton Carr, he was born April 24, 1921, in Lewiston, Maine to Charles and Jane Ann Bedell. He was raised in Upstate New York and graduated from Roessleville High School, Albany, New York in 1940.
Howard enlisted in the Army Air Corp in September 1940. In 1942 he was stationed at Williams Air Force Base where he met Marie Augusta Rewick at a base dance. They were married November 7th 1942, at the Williams Base Post Chapel, Chandler, Arizona. Howard served his country for five years from 1940 to the conclusion of World War II in 1945. After his honorable discharge, he returned to Marie and together they made their permanent home and raised their family in Phoenix, Arizona. He enjoyed a sales career with several food brokerage companies and after retirement he worked part-time for Avis Car Rentals, transporting cars at Sky Harbor Airport. He loved his family and worked hard for their comfort. He looked forward to family summer vacations, either camping and fishing or driving back to New York to visit family. He enjoyed and was a big fan of local sports, especially the Phoenix Suns and Diamond Backs. He always kept himself active by playing golf, bowling in leagues, bicycling, walking and being a rock hound.
Howard was preceded in death by his wife Marie in 2001. They were married for 59 years. He is survived by his children, Claudia Linn (John) Taylor and Carol Jane (Paul) Waters, both of Glendale, Arizona; 3 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held Thursday, May 29th at 10:30AM at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, with interment immediately following.
