Harold B Roberson was born in Pueblo, Co on 12/6/1920, the son of James Alonso Roberson and Mary Ellen Roberson. The Robersons moved to Tucson, AZ when Harold was 6 months old. Harold spent his early years in Tucson going to school while James worked in the family bakery. In 1935, when Harold was a freshman in high school, the family moved to Tempe where James started Roberson and Sons, a variety store in downtown Tempe.
Harold graduated from Tempe High School 1939 and attended Arizona State Teachers College, which is now Arizona State University, where he majored in accounting. After finishing his junior year, he was drafted. He completed four years in the service, serving as a captain medical administrative officer and was awarded a bronze star for meritorious service in Belgium, Holland, France and Germany. He was discharged April 14, 1946. After returning to Tempe, he married Betty Gregg in 1946 and then graduated from Arizona State University in 1947. Harold later assumed management of Roberson and Sons variety store. Harold and Betty had two boys, Gregg, born in 1947 and Kim, born in 1953. In 1960, Roberson and Sons was liquidated and Harold became the first Business Manager of Tempe Elementary School District #3. He retired from the district in 1981. He spent the rest of his years between Tempe and Pinetop, where he built a summer home, which brought joy and endless summer fun for the family.
Betty passed in 1972 and Harold married Ruby May Clark on June 28, 1974 in Tempe. In his later years, Harold and May lived at Friendship Village in Tempe. He was devoted to his family and is survived by his wife May, step-daughters, Jacque Robanser of Redwood City, California and Susie Rose of Eagar, Arizona and his son, Kim of Austin, Texas.
A memorial service will be held June 25, 2016, 1:30-3:30 at Friendship Village in Tempe, AZ. Arrangements entrusted to Resthaven/Carr-Tenney Mortuary & Memorial Gardens.
