Gloria Hernandez was born in Phoenix, Arizona on July 18th, 1940. She was the middle child of 14 children born to Ysabel and Isabel Hernandez. A few years after graduating from high school, she joined the Women’s Army Core. She served six years becoming a Clinical Specialist. She worked in different areas of Lettermen Army Hospital including a short stint in the emergency room. She obtained the E6 status which is equivalent to staff sergeant.
During her service, she befriended Shirley Cota and they became lifelong friends. After leaving the service Gloria earned her RN certification. Gloria went on to work for Kaiser Permanente for 30 years as nurse and later in a managerial role. Gloria cherished her time at the hospital. Gloria and Shirley served and later lived in the San Francisco area until 1997, when they moved to Tempe, Arizona.
Gloria began work at Mesa Public School in 1998. She started out as an aide and worked her way up to Head Technician. She loved working with the children and spoiling them rotten.
She made a positive impact on hundreds of lives and will be missed by friends, families and loved ones.
In lieu of flowers the family would like people to make donations to The Salvation Army.
