Frederick (Freddie) Eugene Matthews Jr. died in Aiea, Hawaii on Feb. 8, 2012. He was born on Dec. 22, 1947 at Quincy, MA, attended Closter Public Schools and Northern Valley High School in Demarest, NJ. He played the trumpet for the Marching Band at the University of Arizona. He obtained his Master of Arts from the Teachers College at Columbia University. In the 70’s he worked as a radio-chemist in a research lab and was a Supervisor in a school for children with special needs in New York City. When Veronica worked he took his task as “Mr. Mom” to his son, Fred (Boojie) seriously. He was an enthusiastic volunteer with the Junior Golf Association of Arizona, previously a member both of Encanto Men’s Club and the Desert Mashie Golf Club, and was an avid golfer around the world all his life making 5 hole-in-ones. He left behind his wife Veronica, son Fred, sister Leslie McKernan of Mt. Dora, FL, nephew Colin and great-nephews, Mitchell and Andrew Ackerman of New Orleans, LA.
