She was born on November 13, 1931 in Pontiac, Michigan to Clarence B. and Frances Laura Chamberlain.
Frances was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Douglas S. Godwin, her sister Shirley Manns, and brother Edwin Chamberlain.
She is survived by her Children; Elizabeth Raptis, Timothy and Kathryn Godwin, Martha and Phillip Lechuga, Kenneth and Jeannette Godwin, her 10 Grandchildren, 11 Great-grandchildren, and 2 sisters Delores Kelley and Carol Messner.
Frances was a school teacher for 31 years teaching mostly in the Cartwright School District in Phoenix, Arizona. After retirement Frances and Douglas enjoyed traveling throughout the country and abroad. Frances volunteered with literacy programs teaching adults to read. She was very involved in charity work with her local and state Emblem Club organizations. She enjoyed quilting and playing golf.
Frances was a devout Christian, attending services at St. John the Baptist Episcopal in Glendale and Episcopal Church of the Epiphany in Flagstaff, AZ.
As a school teacher, Frances has influenced the lives of hundreds of students who are now thriving with the lessons she shared with them. Her contributions to others will far outlive her own life. Her children and grandchildren will continue to share her love of life, travel and learning.
A Graveside service will be held at Phoenix Memorial Park, 200 W. Beardsley Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85027.
Service begins at 11:00am Saturday March 9, 2019 with a hosted reception following.
