Ernest A. Quintero Jr., 50, unexpectedly passed away on July 6, 2020 in Phoenix, Arizona after a valiant battle with COVID-19. Ernie was born in Phoenix on December 31, 1969 to Ernest A. Quintero Sr. and Yolanda Quintero (née Nava). Growing up, he was involved in many sports. He played baseball, football, wrestling, and softball all throughout his life. His passion for sports was only rivaled by his enthusiasm for his academics. He graduated from Carl Hayden High School in 1988. He also attended Phoenix College and graduated with his Associate’s Degree in 1991. In 1992, he welcomed and tragically lost his eldest son due to a premature birth. In 1996 and 1999, respectively, he welcomed his daughter and youngest son, who were the most important part of his life. In 1995, he began his career at Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office as a Detention Officer. After working hard and becoming a Detective, he made the decision to further his education. He attended Grand Canyon University and received both his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Law Enforcement Leadership. From Detention Officer to Deputy to Detective to Sergeant, Ernie dedicated his all to his career. He was immensely proud to be a part of and put in 25 years of his life at the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office. He is survived by his two children, Brianna and Christopher Quintero, his fiancée, Jenny Pacheco, and his stepdaughter, Savanna Peña. He is also survived by his parents, Ernie and Yolanda Quintero; two younger brothers, Steve Quintero and Richard Quintero; sister-in-law, Christina Quintero; former spouse, Andrea Baca; several nieces and nephews as well as aunts, uncles, and cousins. He is predeceased by his eldest son, Ernest Lawrence Quintero. In addition to his beloved family, he also leaves behind the bonds he formed with his dearest friends and fellow officers. Devoted to everything in his life, Ernie was a great man to all those who entered it. He touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed. Ernie was a blessing in life and now we honor him in death.
