Emma D. Maya

She was born to Abelardo “Lalo” and Zobal “Zobie” Agnes Daniel on November 12, 1937 in Gila Bend, Arizona.

During her school years Emma excelled at her academics and was nominated to Girls State by Mr. Davis, she also was part of the Glee Club and graduated from Gila Bend High School in 1956. Emma also was one founder of the Gila Bend Latinas Club.

Emma met her husband Andrew “Andy” Maya, Jr during her high school years. They married on July 4, 1956 and together had nine children. They lived in San Manuel until 1958, then moved to Ajo, Arizona until 1971 and then moved to Gila Bend, Arizona until 1979 and then moved to Show Low, Arizona until 1983 and then moved to Phoenix, Arizona until her death.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her children Andrew the 3rd and baby girl Maya and Phillip Ward her son-in-law.

Emma is survived by her brother Abelardo “Ed” Daniel, sisters, Frances Saucedo and Arite Owens, her children, Aileen, Kathleen, Sandra (Melody Dombach), Edith (Ward), Edward (Leslie Ingallina), Ingrid and Justin (Danyella Barnes). Grandchildren, Scott Celeya, Monique Ward, Emma Antillion (Ward), AJ Shurts, Aubrey, Adyson and Hollis Maya, Greatgrand children, Makenzie Celeya, Selina, Alicia and Josealynn Razo-Godinez (Ward), Cruz and Ezikel Mendoza (Ward), Ignacio, Jesus and Marissa Ward and Tyler Celeya and countless nieces and nephews.

Emma had many talents, seamstress, interior decorator, fashion guru and businesswoman, she owned and operated “Andy Maya’s Fine Mexican Food and “Andy’s Pass Time Bar”.

Our mom was a combination of a superhero and an angel sent from the heavens and a shining light to all who knew or met her in her lifetime.

Emma is fondly remembered, and nick named “Emma D from GB” a sur name given to her by our father.
