I met Elva when she purchased our townhouse near Glendale Community College in Glendale, AZ in 1976.  The first time I met her she told me that she had been looking at a lot of houses and when she viewed our home she knew ours was to be her next home.  She told the realtor “this lady keeps house like I do”.  We became fast friends and kept in touch for several years until the business of work and life (as it will) took over, and sadly I lost touch with Elva.  Over the years I’ve thought of her often and wondered how she was doing.  This morning I found her; but instead of renewing our friendship, I found that she had passed from this life into eternity.  Knowing Elva and her faith in the Almighty Father, I doubt she would trade places with us now that she’s home in the presence of the Jesus she knew and loved.  I’m sad that I won’t be able to contact her today as I had hoped; but I have no doubt where her home is today, and I thank God that I knew this beautiful lady and precious soul.  She loved and was very proud of her children and every time we spoke, she fondly mentioned each of them.  She loved Christmas and proudly showed me the decorated tree that she kept decorated year round in a spare bedroom.  She was the topic of one of what I refer to as a “Christmas miracle”.  With her permission and without using her name, I shared her stunning testimony with many that year.  I won’t go into detail here, but her Christmas miracle was one of very sweet and beautiful unconditional love, grace and forgiveness.  That was Elva.  She was an inspiration, and a lovely Christian lady I will always remember with much respect her many God given spiritual gifts but especially her gift of forgiveness and grace.  May each of her loved ones be comforted and blessed by the memories she left with them, and in the hope that we will one day be reunited.
