Edgar G. Shute Jr., age 90, a longtime resident of Mt. Vernon passed away on November 5, 2013 in Phoenix, AZ. He was born in the Bronx on October 28, 1923, the son of Edgar G. Shute and Edwina Frankenberg He joined the Army in 1942 and was a Light Tank Commander in the European Theatre during WW II. He was involved in numerous campaigns and received a number of decorations, including a Purple Heart. He was a volunteer firefighter for 7 years, and later employed by the City of Mt. Vernon Fire Deparment, retiring after 33 years of service. Mr. Shute was a lifetime member of the Bronx/New Rochelle Elks Lodge; Past Exalted Ruler. He dedicated his time through the Elks Lodge to the Veterans Hospital and was a bell ringer during the holiday season for The Salvation Army, as long as he was able to. His life was spent in public service. Edgar is preceded in death by his wife Carol Jeanne Hamann Shute, his son Thomas William Shute and his sister Theresa Balcom. He is survived by his children, Edgar G. (Laura) Shute III, Carol S. (Anthony) Rozzi, James C. (Linda) Shute,and Jessica J. (David) Gionet and; his grandchildren, Thomas and Stephen Rozzi, Michael and Jennifer Shute and David (Dr. Marlene) Montgomery; his great-grandson Stephen A. Rozzi; and his sisters Edwina (William) Synder and Jessie (the late Rob) Degenhardt. His life will be remembered during a Visitation, Friday November 15, 2013 from 4-8 pm at Yannantuono Burr Davis Sharpe Funeral Home, 584 Gramatan Ave. Mt. Vernon, NY 10552. Burial will take place on Wednesday, November 20, 2013, 10:00 am, at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Valhalla, NY.
