December 11, 1929 – December 23, 2015
Dixie Lee Johnson Brown, 86, passed away at Gardiner Home, Phoenix, after a short illness at the Beautitudes Campus, Phoenix, where she had lived for many years, establishing and maintaining so many friendships after the loss of her beloved husband Price. She was the youngest of three sisters, born in Plainview, Texas where her Daddy Guy and her mother Kathleen, with the help of Guy’s parents, ran The Sunset Dairy. The family moved to Phoenix on Christmas Day, 1936. Dixie was a nurturing kindergarten teacher for thirty-some years. She created quilts, kimonos, and gifts, always the generous heart, sharing herself with her step-children Marjorie Steffen and Stephen Brown, her five grandchildren Jennifer, Juliann, Eric, Timothy, and Sara, her great-grandchildren, her six nieces and nephews Jennifer, Leslee, Brian, Laurie, Chris, and Kathy, her dozen great-nieces and great-nephews, and her great-greats. She wrote well, chronicling episodes of her life in Texas and Arizona, and carried the family histories forward by compiling data, photographs, clippings, and anecdotes of persons in her genealogy spanning hundreds of years beginning with Warwick Castle in England. She was gifted in the art of conversation, and blessed with a non-judgmental attitude toward all. She enriched the lives of so many, and she will be long remembered and deeply missed. She often said, ‘I have lived a wonderful life.’ The family is indebted to the dedicated staffs of The Beautitudes Campus, the Gardiner Home, and Hospice of the Valley.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday morning, 10AM, January 2, 2016, at the Everett Luther Life Center on The Beautitudes Campus, 1610 W. Glendale Ave.
