David "Scoot" Warren Richmond Jr.

David Warren Richmond Jr., known lovingly to his family as Scoot, was born on Tuesday December 9th 1980 to Donna Colbert and David W. Richmond Sr. at Stanford University hospital. Scoot spent the first 4 years 11 months and 340 days as the pride and joy only child of David and Donna. Then Scoot became a proud big brother to Dolan. Although almost 5 years older than Dolan, Scoot would donate action figures to Dolan’s destruction company (he actually was really upset when Dolan destroyed his action figures). During Scoot’s early years he became drawn to science fiction and comic books and soon became a Treky, watching every single Star Trek show that came on TV. This was quite a feat considering DVR had yet to be invented.

From elementary to high school, Scoot would earn numerous scholastic achievements awards including; Honor roll, Junior Achievement, National Honor Society and he was a Crosby Scholar. Scoot had an incredible knack for last minute study sessions to pass any test or quiz and staying up all night to turn in any term paper. He held several class offices in high school and was on the homecoming court his Junior and Senior year. At the end of high school, Scoot had several colleges that offered him an opportunity to continue his education. In the end Scoot choose to attend Florida State University in Tallahassee, Florida.

In Aug of 1999, Scoot was on his own for the first time at college, several hours and states away from his nearest family members. During this time Scoot struggled academically for the first time in his life. Scoot would ultimately be placed on academic probation and eventually had to leave Florida State University. Scoot was never one to quit or give up. Scoot was determined to finish his degree. He worked several jobs and enrolled in the local junior college where he earned an associate degree. However, the associates degree wasn’t enough for Scoot. He would continue to work and go to school full time and in December of 2009, Scoot graduated from Florida State University.

After his graduation from Florida State, Scoot moved to Phoenix. Once in Phoenix, Scoot held several full time jobs, working in the customer service / IT industry. But where Scoot really grew was when he become part of a local church body and make several life-long friends. Scoot, a once self-proclaimed introvert, went on several missions trips around the country building houses and volunteering wherever he could. He used all of the tools that God gave him to the best of his abilities.

Scoot’s love for all things sci-fi and comic books never waned. He would often go to the movies to see his favorite movies the night it premiered then go again with a group of friends. Scoot could talk for hours about his favorite movies or TV shows and the different plot twist and story archs. But, the thing he would talk the most about was his nieces. Scoot never had kids of his own but he loved his nieces like they where his own. We knew when Uncle David (they weren’t allowed to call him Scoot) called that they were going to be on the phone for at least 45 minutes. Scoot saved every picture of his nieces and often would brag about their accomplishments to his friends.

Scoot unexpectedly passed away on August 8, 2022 at the age of 41. Left behind to cherish Scoot’s memory: His Mother, Donna Kay Colbert. His Father, David W. Richmond Sr.. His brother and his sister in law, Dolan and La Dorian Richmond. Three nieces, Typhani, Amil and Makynzie Richmond. And way to many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends to name. He loved each and every one of you.
