David is survived by his wife, Paula Mills, his siblings, sister, Brenda Rodriguez and her husband Jesse Rodriguez; brother, Dan Mills; brother, Steve Mills and his wife, Claudia. He is also survived by niece, Penny Rodriguez and her husband Michael; and nephew, Eric Rodriguez.
David was born in Montgomery, Maryland on May 17, 1962 to Marian Adella Fisher and Robert Raymond Mills, both now deceased. He grew up in Unionville, PA until the age of 16, when the family moved to Phoenix, AZ. He graduated from Marcos De Niza High School in 1980. He moved to Lubbock, Texas and spent 2 years attending Texas Tech.
David was athletic and competitive. He loved playing several sports – from football to baseball and wrestling. Even though he attended Texas Tech, he was a life-long Penn State Nittany Lions fan. He was also an avid Washington Redskins fan, and an Arizona Diamondbacks fan.
David loved country and Christian music. His dream was to learn to play the guitar. As an adult, he took lessons for 2 years, but was never able to master his favorite instrument. So, he became a master at creating playlists of his favorite music on various internet music sites – from Amazon to Spotify to Pandora. Oh, he loved his music!
David’s first love was Jesus Christ. David was whole-heartedly dedicated to serving the Lord, and reading and studying his Bible. He became an ordained minister in 2002, graduating from Harvesters Bible Seminary. His desire was to teach the Word and how to apply biblical principles to everyday life.
He was involved in several areas of church life from preaching the occasional evening service, to kitchen management. He served on many leadership committees and evangelism teams. He helped in the audio-visual department and filled the role of janitor. Whatever the need, David was ready to serve and do his best because he was doing it for the Lord. He walked in compassion and mercy, had great faith and lived what he believed. He will be deeply missed by family and friends, and all who knew him.
Celebration of Life Services will be held at The Meadows Baptist Church, 3701 W. Beardsley Road, Glendale, AZ at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, January 9, 2019. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Convoy of Hope, Feed My Starving Children or Gideon’s International.
