He was born on August 24, 1942 in East Liberty, Ohio. He was married to Sandra Scott Hays on June 27, 1971 in Chicago, Illinois. They traveled the world together and were inseparable until her tragic passing in 2010.
In 1960, David graduated from Orrville High School in Orrville, Ohio, where he participated in football, wrestling, and weight lifting. He graduated from The University of Michigan with a BS in Engineering, and he earned a MBA from The University of Detroit.
As an engineer, he designed Cadillacs for General Motors in Detroit, Michigan. He transitioned to healthcare and served as a business/financial advisor for medical providers in Illinois, Alabama, and Arizona for the remainder of his work life. He was retired at the time of his passing.
David’s interests were diverse, and he had a passionate love of learning. He enjoyed reading, music, art, photography, sports, history, and following the stock market and current events. He loved living in Arizona.
His devotion to animals was recognized by all who knew him. He rescued numerous dogs and cats throughout his life and they became members of the family. For over thirty years he walked his dogs at Moon Valley Park in Phoenix, where he got to know and love all of his neighbors and their pets.
Although he never had children of his own, he was extremely close to his nephew Scott Ambs. David treated Scott as a son, and was like a grandfather to Scott and Ruthann’s children, Joshua, Alex, and Anabelle.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sandra Marine; his parents, James and Maxine Marine; his mother-in-law, Dorothy Hays; his niece, Stacey Ambs; and his beloved pets Ziggy, Skyler, Rocky, Bubbles, Puddles, Maggie, Carnac, Rascal, and Toby.
He is survived by his brothers, Robert (Carol) Marine of Sequim, Washington, and Jeff (Sharon) Marine of Surprise, Arizona, and his sister Patricia Ambs of Phoenix, Arizona; his nephews, Scott (Ruthann) Ambs, Steve Ambs, Nate Marine, Zack Marine, and nieces Sierra Marine and Naomi Marine; great-nephews Joshua Ambs and Alex Ambs, and great-neice Anabelle Ambs; his dog Nacho and cats Little Bud and Archie.
Family and friends, along with their pets, are invited to attend a memorial service at 318 E. Carol Ann Way in Phoenix on Saturday, June 9th from 11-1. In lieu of flowers, guests are encouraged to bring a donation of pet food, to be donated to the Arizona Humane Society in his name.
