David "Dave" Blackwood, 89, of Phoenix, passed away on October 14, 2009. He was born on June 27, 1920 in America Junction, Alabama to Edward and Jessie Blackwood. He proudly served our country in the U.S Army Corp of Engineers during WWII. He was educated as a mechanical engineer in the aerospace industry. He rose to the position of Marketing Director for Talley Defense Systems of Arizona, serving for 25 years. He is noted as a very dedicated volunteer who contributed in excess of 10,000 volunteer hour with the American Red Cross. Dave is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jane; sister, June Blackwood-O'Rear and many dear personal friends. The Life Celebration Service will be held 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 20, 2009 at the Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Church, Christ Chapel, 1500 W. Maryland Ave., Phoenix, AZ, 85015. A reception will follow the service in the Burns Hall. Memorial contributions may be made in Dave's honor to the American Red Cross or the Arizona Humane Society.
