Darlene Ann Coulson, was born in Danvers Massachusetts, to Charles Edward Coulson and Rosemary Theresa McCulloch, on February 25, 1961. She married Lawrence Howell Johnson on September 16, 1982 in Danmark.
She served in the Army, which is where she met Larry Johnson her future husband. From there she worked as a sheriff for Maricopa County Sheriff Department. Upon her husband’s death she retired and decided to go into teaching. She graduated from ASU with a Bachelors degree. And went to work for Sunnyslope high school. She worked there for 24 years. And enjoyed every moment. She taught alternative education, later called credit recovery. These were students who needed help getting back on track to graduate. And, some saw them as trouble. But, she saw these students as full of strength and potential. Threw a grant she was able to work with AAA in a job placement program with them. Giving some of her students jobs along with valuable interview skills. Retiring was a vary hard thing for her 2022, but was the best thing in the end. It saddened her to miss being there to help her students. And she was sad she wouldn’t be seeing the other teachers and staff she’d come to love and know so well. Sunnyslope was a second home to her.
Darlene Johnson is preceded in death by her husband Lawrence Howell Johnson, her mother Rosemary (McCulloch) Coulson, her father Charles Coulson, and her brother’s Edward and Gregory Coulson.
Darlene Johnson is survived by her daughter Jasmine Johnson and her son Clifford Johnson.
Her sister in-laws; Liz Desdunes, Jean Johnson, Corinne Johnson, Ginna Coulson. Her nieces, nephews, and great niece and nephew. Joseph, Daniel,
and Lori Coulson. David Lauchie, Peter and Alee Schwarz. Kevin Howell and his son Timothy, and Mia Mance and her daughter Gia.
Also, her extended family the Miles. Becky and her husband Charlie. Their children; little Charlie and his wife Amanda and their daughter Genevieve, Chris, and Rick Reed. Also Sarah Coleman who was a second daughter to her.
Memorials may be given to Shadow Mountain Mortuary. I request that pink is worn to celebrate the passing of my mother Darlene Johnson. It was her favorite color and I believe she would prefer it over black.
The family of Darlene Johnson wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Abrazo Heart Hospital, Dr Desiree Little, Dr loli, and Hospice of the Valley.
