“Did I give enough?” was one of the last things our dad asked during his final hours. Our mom assured him that he had. Together they raised three daughters to be strong, independent and caring. Dad gave his heart and soul to his family, friends and community. Always the optimist, he led our family in fundraising to find a cure for Parkinson's Disease (PD). The world is a better place because of him.
Dan joined the Lord on Thursday, September 15, 2016. A humble man of strength, passion and faith, he impacted every person he met. Friends and family describe him as "an inspiration", "my hero", “fair", “determined", “inquisitive", "a wonderful soul".
Born in 1945, in Moscow, Idaho, raised in Phoenix, Arizona with his two brothers and sister, Dan graduated from Camelback High School, Arizona State University where he was a FIGI, and McGeorge Law School in California. At an early age, Dan found a passion for giving (and sales), knocking on doors and selling his lawn mowing services. That work ethic blossomed into an incredible real estate career in San Diego, California where Dan was a top 1% sales leader for over 30 years. The realtor community knew Dan as "a fierce competitor yet still an honest, decent, kind, funny individual with compassion, high morals and integrity". And they "always feared the Dan Driscoll counter offer”. Create, don’t compete!
Dan loved sports - high school and college, Go Devils! He was our #1 Fan across Field Hockey, Soccer and Swimming competitions (and everything we did). Just do your best ladies!
An avid runner, it provided him time to think, generate new ideas, and focus on his priorities (the modern day meditation). Over the years, Dan completed many full and half marathons, including the Boston Marathon (2hrs 56 mins) and a marathon where he guided a blind runner to the finish line. Inspired by his mom, Dan loved to golf and retirement finally allowed him time to play. He rejoiced when he broke
80. Summers were spent trying to ‘catch the big one’ at Priest Lake, Idaho and teaching us that wiping out is how you learn to water ski. Long and steady always wins!
Above all, Dan was devoted to his family, friends and community. He believed he was on this earth to do good for others. He was an amazing, caring, supportive husband of 48 years. A fabulous father to three daughters; a devoted son, brother, grandfather, and a special father figure to our large extended family.
He taught us friends are family. He maintained friendships from the sixth grade, high school, college, his career, and beyond. Involved in many community, church and volunteer programs, his last focus was fundraising to find a cure for PD. He found the good in everyone. Without question, Dan was on your side, didn’t judge you, and never hesitated to say how proud he was of you. Prioritize your family and friends first!
Dan is survived by his wife Barbara (Doeller), three daughters and their families: Madelyn (Dana), Amy (Giles), Joy (Court), three grandchildren (Sierra, Jacqueline, and Maxwell); mother Mary Corbin, brother Wally (Mary), brother Harry (Chris), and sister Rosemary (Chip); step-sister and step-brothers Ginny, Ed and Mo Corbin; sister-in-laws Becky, Kathy and Melinda.
Dad, yes, you absolutely gave enough and more. We are proud of YOU. We love YOU. Your legacy burns bright. Run fast today and keep hitting them long & straight.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Parkinson Alliance in his honor (www.Parkinsonalliance.org). A Celebration of Life will be held on October 22nd in Phoenix, AZ. #MarathonMan #KingofNorthPark #ParkinsonSucks
