Craig Thomas Asbury was born in Phoenix, Arizona at St. Joseph’s Hospital, when it was located within a few blocks of Phoenix Union High School. Most of his boyhood was spent on the golf course improving and perfecting his game, and around the pool at Phoenix Country Club. He loved Encanto Park and thought it was there solely for his brothers and him. Craig had a love for boating, water skiing Arizona lakes, and a special love for San Diego and Pacific Beach. As a teenager, Craig spent summers working at his family’s ice company (Crystal Ice).
Craig’s formal schooling began at Longview elementary school, also attending Osborn elementary. He was a four-year letterman in golf and graduated from North High School in 1969. Craig then joined the Army National Guard. After completion he attended NAU. While attending he was called to the U.S. Army. He was assigned to the 17th Cavalry 101st Airborne Air Assault Division in Fort Campbell, Kentucky. After completing his tour of the duty, he returned to Phoenix in 1977, when he met Susan King. They were married in 1978. Craig had an undergraduate degree in accounting/finance and spent 23 years as a mortgage industry professional. He was in investment banking as a stockbroker for 10 years with Young, Smith and Peacock. Craig was a quality assurance manager for loan origination, underwriting and problem resolution for 13 years with Bank of America.
Craig is survived by his wife, Susan King Asbury of 44 years, son Jim, daughters Juli Vowell (John), Audra Gilbert (Eric), 4 grandchildren, Brad Bandes who preceded him in death in 2013, Kyle, Camden, Zailey, 2 brothers, Harry Asbury and Don Asbury.
