Charles H. Gibson left Tuesday morning for heaven. He recently celebrated his 77th birthday. Chuck was born in a log house on the banks of the Mississippi River to Charles Emanuel and Eula Marie Gibson.
In 1960 he was ordained to the pastoral ministry and pastored Southern Baptist churches in Illinois, Missouri, Indiana and Arizona, also serving as a trustee of The Southern Baptist Theological Seminary. His most recent pastorate was The Meadows Baptist Church. He held a Ph.D. in theology.
He married Treva Kay Humphrey in 1959 and has 2 sons with families: Chuck, Jr. and wife Kris, granddaughters Jennifer and Alexa Pierce who is married to Chris and gave Chuck a great-granddaughter Aubrey Ann; Eric and wife Susan and grandsons Grant and Spencer. He also leaves behind a sister Mrs. Robert Phillips (Joan), and two half sisters Kathy Birke and Donna Kirkley plus many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Friday, July 5, from 6-8 p.m. at Phoenix Memorial Park & Mortuary, 200 West Beardsley Road, Phoenix. Burial will take place Saturday at 9:00 a.m. at Phoenix Memorial Park. Memorial Service will be held Saturday, July 6, at 11:00 a.m. at The Meadows Baptist Church, 3701 West Beardsley, Glendale, AZ 85308. People wishing to express sympathy other than with flowers may donate to a memorial fund at The Meadows Baptist Church. This fund will support ministries for youth and children of the church.
