91 of Phoenix Arizona. Born July 31, 1921 in Buffalo, NY. Passed away December 28, 2012 in Phoenix, AZ. Charles served as an armed guard for the Navy during WW11 where he earned a purple heart surviving the attack at Bari, Italy. He retired as a tool and die maker from JH Williams after 44 years. He was a life member of the Brighton Fire Company of Tonawanda NY where he served as a volunteer fireman and held offices including President. He was an active member of the Elks in Largo Fl for over 20 years. He was a member of the Shriners, Masons and the American Legion. He was always very active in his community creating lasting relationships where ever he went. He gave everyone an inspiration for his love of life which gave him a long list of close friends. Even after the age of 90, he could be bowling or singing karaoke with his friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Marie A. of 65 years and preceded by sister Catherine Koerner of Buffalo, NY. Survived by a sister Shirley Grochow and husband Richard of Michigan and many nieces and nephews. Donations to the Shriner’s Hospital for children, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607. Arrangements entrusted to Shadow Mountain Mortuary for a burial at the Veteran’s Cemetery, Phoenix AZ 2:30 pm February 8, 2013 and Elks 335 memorial service to follow at the lodge.
