Brian K. von Allworden, age 60, passed away on Tuesday November 8, 2022. He was born on March 13, 1962 in Santa Maria, California to Ted and Wanda von Allworden. His childhood was spent in the outback of Australia and he would tell you “It was a million miles from nowhere”. He loved to share stories about his adventures growing up and no one ever knew where that story would lead – but you always knew there would be a surprise ending -like the time he drove off a cliff on his motorcycle. He came back to the states, graduated from Arizona State University with a BS in Civil Engineering and Interior Architecture. He married Melanie Slater in March of 1986 and called Tempe home for 36 years. He worked as a Structural Engineer, widely recognized as an expert in Green Design specializing in Structural Insulated Panels (SIP). He was mentor to his co-workers and had a quick wit that made everyone laugh.
Brian had an adventurous spirit and was always eager to share those adventures with his family and friends. Whether it was decorating the scariest house on the block for Halloween or movie nights from the swimming pool, Brian was just as much a kid as his two sons, Josh and Zac. You could find him on the soccer pitch either as a volunteer coach or as a soccer dad. He was their biggest fan. Brian took his engineering and architecture skills and built their dream home in Tempe with plenty of room for his world class Coca Cola memorabilia collection as well as Aboriginal art.
He loved all kinds of animals. In Australia he had Kuchcia the wallaby and Sam the cockatoo and in Tempe, there was always a dog. The past few years, he and Noob, his therapy dog, would make weekly visits to the hospital. Noob would sense the patient's need for affection and Brian would gently walk Noob to the bedside to be petted and snuggled. Nurses always smiled when the two of them appeared because of the joy they brought to the floor.
Brian was larger than life. He was happiest when he could be barefoot and outdoors- building or just tinkering with something. His laughter and gentle spirit will be missed.
He is survived by his wife Melanie, sons Josh (Mackenzie), Zac, their dogs, Noob, Riley, and Sunny, his brothers Ron and Mike, and his sister Kim. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Alliance of Therapy Dogs, P.O. Box 2027, Cheyenne, WA 82003.
