Brenda Jo Feasel, a beloved wife, mother, grandma, and teacher, passed away at the age of 72 on July 27th, 2023. She was surrounded by her close family in the two weeks of her courageous health battle.
Brenda was born on May 25th, 1951, in Edmonton Alberta, Canada. She was adopted from an orphanage at a young age by her American parents, Raymond and Vera Logan. As an only child, Brenda enjoyed an incredible childhood full of travel and adventure. She spent her early years living in Texas and Kansas. As a graduate of Kansas State University, Brenda graduated with a bachelor's degree in education, with an emphasis in French and English. She balanced her studies with an avid love of sewing, making her own clothes during her penny-pinching college years. Her first Elma sewing machine was her prized possession and she often shared that “they just don’t make them like they used to.”
Brenda taught many grade levels during her 43 years as an educator. Her own education sparked a passion for the English language, and her passion for grammar and spelling was unmatched. (You wouldn't dare mess up the spelling of there/their/they’re, unless you were prepared to be corrected!) She had a gift for connecting with her students and bringing out the best in them. The supportive culture in her classroom was built around traditions that students heard about long before joining her class. Her love for themed bulletin boards, holiday parties, and class auctions were only a few of the elements that made Mrs. Feasel a teaching legend. Brenda touched the lives of countless students during her career and she held memories of every single student in her heart.
Early in her career, Brenda coached high school volleyball in Kansas. She took her team to the state championship and often shared memories of girls on her team and the special bonds that were made. While teaching (and grading papers!) consumed most of her time, Brenda snuck in as many games of Scrabble and Wordle as she could. Because her busy daily schedule would not allow, she recorded the Today Show every morning and caught up on the show each weekend. She had the opportunity to travel to New York City twice and spent hours standing outside Studio 1A, marveling at the show that she so loved. Her love for Al Roker was unmatched, and on one lucky morning, she saw him come out of the studio. Adrenaline set in, and she chased him down for a photo. He surely thought she was another fan who recognized the weather guy, but little did he know he was in the presence of his biggest fan.
Brenda leaves behind her husband of 35 years, Bob Feasel (and mother and father-in-law Gary and Marilyn), her children Abbey (and husband Jason), Whitney and Brady, and two grandchildren, Harlow (9) and Winston (6). An avid dog lover, Brenda also leaves behind her Scottish Terrier, Auggie, and new Westie puppy, Finley.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Myrtle Creek Elementary at the Skyhawk Room, Myrtle Creek, Oregon at 10am on Saturday, August 26th.
