Roberta Suzanne Hawkins, lovingly, known as Bobbie, was born on September 28, 1949 in Detroit, Michigan. The oldest of five girls, Bobbie was always available to help meet the needs of others. She graduated from Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Girls’ High School in 1967. She met the love of her life, Ken, when she was 16 years old. They were married on April 19, 1968. Bobbie’s greatest joy came from spending time with family.
Bobbie found purpose when she was doing the Lord’s work, whether it was organizing and speaking at women’s retreats, facilitating youth groups, teaching kids at church, or taking those 10 amazing pilgrimage trips to Medugorje. Besides the miracles that Bobbie witnessed in Medugorje, a highlight of her life was meeting Mother Teresa twice. Another highlight was a dream come true when she opened and ran “The Ark” a Catholic gift and bookstore. Avowing her pure devotion to Christ, Bobbie professed as a Third Order Carmelite receiving the religious name, Mary Teresa of the Precious Blood of Jesus on December 17, 1989.
Bobbie was most happy when opportunities came to fervently pray for others, to take communion to those homebound, to make handmade rosaries, or to bless her loved ones with a gift or with her delicious cooking, and when she could share God-given wisdom and insight with friends and family.
Bobbie is preceded in death by her mother and stepfather, Vivian and Bob Rozenboom, her biological father, Bob McKenna, her sister Gloria Dunham, and her husband Ken Hawkins.
She is survived by her daughter, Dr. Susan Hawkins-Hunt, her sons, Michael and Mark Hawkins, her three grandchildren, Jack Hunt, Emma and Hayden Hawkins, three sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
Bobbie will always be remembered for her kind, giving spirit, her sense of humor, her faith, her good advice, and most of all, her love.
“We have one choice in life, to choose God or to choose not to follow God. The end of lonesoME is ME. The end with JesUS is US."
