beloved mother and wife, left us on Tuesday September 18, 2012, at age 85. To know Beverly was to dearly love her. Born in Columbus, Ohio on May 14, 1927 to George Everett Boone and Adelaide May Stephens Boone, she was the youngest of six children. On June 2, 1947 she became the proud wife of Stephen Saunders Jenkins, Jr., a former Tuskegee Airman who led a decorated career as a USAF fighter and bomber pilot until his retirement in May of 1967. "Bev and Steve" were childless during their first 13 years together. When there was time for fun they would entertain friends, go out dancing or to concerts, and travel to visit family. Steve even convinced her to take golf lessons! But Steve was often overseas and while he was gone Beverly would take business classes and participate in social and charitable activities with the officer's wives clubs, including being a writer and editor for a base newsletter. Later Beverly devoted herself to caring for their home and family of three children. She was actively involved in her children's school and extracurricular activities: PTA, school band, scouting, Episcopal church, music and dance lessons. She worked as a teacher's aide and was an integral part of her husband's civic involvements, always supporting and participating with Steve while he served the Phoenix community as a member of Camelback Kiwanis Club, as president of the Phoenix Union High School District and Arizona State school boards, and as a member of the St. Joseph's Hospital board. They shared 55 years of marriage until he passed away on November 28, 2001. All her life, Beverly was the nucleus of her family. She was always supportive of her husband and children, and played a central role in her children's lives even after they were grown. She loved animals and throughout the years spent many tv-watching evenings relaxing with her dog in her lap. She planted flowers in her garden, sewed clothes, cooked hearty meals, crafted dolls and Christmas ornaments, stitched quilts, and made scrapbooks of her family's lives. It hurts to lose her. She is survived by her children Stephen Milton (Helen), Linda Ruth, and Lisa Renee (Robert). We love you, Mom. No funeral service, but there will be a home gathering soon
