Bessie Laverne (Black) Montgomery age 79, passed peacefully in her sleep May 31st 2017 in her home in Phoenix. Bessie is survived by her loving husband Gene Montgomery and his daughter Tana. Bessie is also survived by three children from her first marriage, Robert, Ruth (Stanley) and Andy (Rhonda), as well as 10 grandkids and 12 great grandkids. Bessie was also preceded in death by her daughter Peggy and grandson Jason.
Bessie was born in McLure, Illinois and moved to Phoenix in 1961 where she raised her 4 children.
She held various positions in the medical field including working directly with the Phoenix Police and Fire Departments.
Bessie was a loving mother, wife and nanny. Known as "Ma" by far more children than she gave birth to, she fed and cared for any and all who graced her doorstep over the years. She will be sorely missed. The family would like to extend their thanks to Hospice of the Valley for their care and concern.
