Barbara Terhune Preising, age 86, passed away on June 28th, 2021. Barbara, known to family and friends as “Barb” or “Barby,” was born June7th, 1935 in East Orange, New Jersey, and spent her childhood in nearby Belmar. Barb married Robert “Bob” Preising in 1956. She graduated from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1958. Barb taught second grade until her first of four children arrived. She then devoted herself as a full-time mother, wife and homemaker. She was active in the Episcopal Church and often volunteered for her children’s school activities. She excelled in sewing and knitting. She often created clothing for loved ones, as well as Halloween costumes and Christmas stockings that are still in use. Barb loved animals, had several well-loved pets, and contributed to various humane societies. She loved to travel and would eventually visit all forty-eight contiguous states. In later years, she regularly traveled by steamboat or barge along the Mississippi River and its tributaries. A fan of the Phoenix Suns and Arizona Cardinals, Barb loved to watch and attend games and fan celebrations for her teams. She loved hosting family gatherings for holidays and sporting events. Barb was preceded in death by her husband Bob, her parents, Charles and Maude Terhune, as well as her sister Patricia. Her survivors include her son Dean (Twyla), and her daughters Carrie Pratt (James), Jennie Preising and Peggy Redding (Richard). Barb is also survived by six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, as well as several nieces and nephews. Barb will be laid to rest with her husband, an Air Force veteran. Her memorial service will be at 10:00am on Monday, July 19, 2021 at Shadow Mountain Mortuary, 2350 E. Greenway Road, Phoenix, AZ 85022.
