Archie was born on April 7, 1940 in Phoenix, Arizona and was proud of being a third-generation native Arizonan who lived his whole life in the area. He was raised by his parents, Talbert and Virginia Johnson, along with his brothers, Talbert Jr., and Harold. He would credit his later success in the car wash industry to his childhood and the creative and industrious environment in which his father taught his boys to design and build equipment, especially cars and hot rods. Archie and his brothers didn't get first bikes - they rode around in their first motor cars at the age of 5. He often talked about his experiences roaming, riding horses, and getting into mischief in the "country" - when Phoenix was the country.
In addition to hot rods and invention, Archie also loved flying and flew small airplanes for more than 20 years. He met his wife of 38 years, Marcia Tower, skiing in Durango, Colorado, and with her enjoyed many years of flying, skiing, boating, and other adventurous travel. He was known to share stories of his flights and thrills with those around him.
Archie owned and operated manufacturing businesses, including Superior Car Wash Systems, Inc., and Dryer Pros, LLC. He obtained several patents for his designs and was internationally recognized for his innovation within the industry.
He will be remembered as a devoted family man who always ensured his family's provision and happiness. Archie's legacy of inventive thinking, strength, witty and dry sense of humor, and love of his family will continue to inspire future generations.
Archie is survived by his wife, Marcia, and their daughter, Molly Christine Cardinal; his former wife, Jill Katzen Johnson, and their son, Adam Michael Johnson; and his grandchildren, Joseph Lee Cardinal and Bella Grace Cardinal.
