Anna Mae Ong passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 in Mesa, Arizona. She was 82 years old. Anna Mae was born in Phoenix in 1932. She attended Phoenix Union High School. Following graduation Anna Mae attended Phoenix College and Howell Dental Institute. She briefly worked as a dental hygienist in California but returned to her hometown to assist in the operation of the family business, South Phoenix Market. Anna Mae loved the Phoenix Suns nearly as much as she loved her family. She was a longtime season ticket holder and spent hours listening to the radio and watching televised games when her beloved Suns played on the road. Some of her favorite players included Kevin Johnson and Jeff Hornacek. From her court side seats she was never shy in offering coaching advice to the players. She is survived by her sisters, Lucy Woo (Chester) and Adeline Tom (Newton) and 10 nieces and nephews and 11 great nieces and great nephews who loved her dearly. She is pre-deceased by her parents Poy and Josephine Ong; her brothers, Tom, Ted, William, Raymond and Fred. A memorial service and celebration of Anna Mae’s life will be private. She will be interred alongside her parents at Greenwood-Memory Lawn Mortuary and Cemetery in Phoenix. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Anna Mae’s memory to Hospice of the Valley at 1510 E. Flower Street, Phoenix, AZ 85014.
