Andrea “Andy” Betty Nicoluzakis, 70, beloved Yiayia, Mother, Wife, Sister, Godmother & Friend fell asleep all too suddenly with the Lord on August 4th, 2014. She was a wonderful and incredible woman with a heart large enough for all. Born in Chicago, Illinois in 1944, Andy loved to run and wrestle with her brother, Perry. Moving to Phoenix in the 1950’s, she attended Arizona State University where she graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Masters in Counseling, became a State Champion Archer and Charter member of the Pi Beta Phi Sorority. She was an avid Orthodox Christian heavily involved in the community assisting in the founding of the Orthodox Parents Association, church camps and folk dance groups as well as volunteering at the many Greek Festivals. Andy also held several offices with the Philoptochos Society and was a board member of the Holy Trinity Academy as well as assisted with several Clergy/Laity conferences. She married her beloved husband, Anthony, in 1969 raising 3 children and this year celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary. While her children attended school she was President of the Parents and Teachers at Simis in the Madison District. During her 57 years as a Phoenix resident she was a full-time elementary school teacher, a substitute teacher, a tutor, and an accountant. Andy loved her family, especially her grandchildren and loved to travel the world. There was no person or organization in need of help that she did not volunteer her talents. There was no issue too large or problem too difficult that she did not give her love and attention. There was no relative or friend in need that she did not lend her hand. Andy is survived by her faithful and loving husband, Tony, her brother Perry Contos, three grateful children, Steffani Meyers (Don), Steven (Erin), Jason (Karen), and eight beloved grandchildren from oldest to youngest, John, Jackson Meyers, Isabelle, Anthony, Claire Meyers, Sophie, Katherine and Theodore. Her love, warmth and presence will be undoubtedly and deeply missed by all. Donations in Andy’s name will be accepted by St. Katherine’s Philoptochos of Holy Trinity Cathedral.
